A last minute add-on to our 2008 schedule... UMP Fall Nationals at Eldora. This will be out 3rd trip to the famed 1/2 mile owned by Tony Stewart. This was a 2 day show with Qualifying on Friday and Heat races and mains on Saturday. We would start off with hot laps which went well, with times faster than we had been there before. It was pretty cool on Friday night and we didn't think to much about it... however that would come back to haunt us in Qualifying as the engine was not at operating temperature for the qualifying lap. That would put us almost a full second off the pace....and worse yet, towards the back of the heat race on Saturday. Friday night we went up to the annual party and talked with many others from all over...it's was a good time. Saturday in the heat race we would make some passes and generally get some laps. We did make a engine fan change earlier which got the engine a little on the warm side, not enough to hurt but it was spitting water at us when Kevin came in. The B-Main we would start on the 3rd row, with that we decided to make some changes to the car to see what we could learn. We definitely freed the car up but a loose body brace was getting under the right front tire momentarily locking it up....which is not good at a track like this... so after a few laps Kevin brought it in to see what was causing the problems...that's when we found the body brace. All in all, another learning weekend. We are working on more power for next year as well as coming to the track with better setups.
This was the last race of the year for Reeve Racing as of 10/06....however, this isn't set completely in stone as of yet.

Sept. 27th Results, Canada, Heat Race Win and 5th |

We made the return trip to Canada's South Buxton Speedway for the "Shootout". With no issues getting a crossed the boarder we unloaded and got ready for hot laps. Kevin would qualify a solid 10th in the 38 car field. That would put him on the 2nd row for the heat race. As our luck would go this weekend, the pole sitter would drop out on the pace lap and Kevin would assume the pole. On the first start Kevin would shoot to the lead but get called back due to a yellow on the opening lap. On the next restart Kevin would jump to the lead again, this time pulling away until encountering a lapped car which was broke...as Kevin moved low for the pass the car turned left causing Kevin to spin, the track had seen that the car was broke and lukily gave Kevin his spot back with minimal damage. Kevin would go on to another heat race win this year. For the feature they lined us up by the heat race finishing order, being the 2nd heat race, Kevin would start outside front row. At the green the pole sitter and Kevin would set out to distance themselves from the rest of the field. After a couple yellows Kevin was still maintaining 2nd spot even with an ill handling car from an earlier bump with another car. On the next to last restart Kevin would make a challenge on the leader and nearly take the lead before the yellow would come out again putting him back to 2nd. On the last restart several cars where on the move and were gaining....in the final 8 laps Kevin would drop back to 5th. Not a bad night, but might have been much better given a little better car. Either way, it was a much better result than last year. The only negative on the weekend was the bully tactics that another team seems to think makes them bigger men, but all it does is make the driver and his dad look like little kids. We also managed to get back a crossed the boarder without a random search. |
