Mid-Winter Updates
Monday, 18 January 2010

Now that the holidays are out of the way, we can get back to getting the new car done. We picked up sheet metal this past Saturday, so Kevin can start on the body now. Front suspension is on and shocks are almost done. We are doing a wrap for the 2010 season and from the sounds of things it should be pretty cool.

We did find another problem with our first engine...the block needed another sleeve after finding a crack. Bad things happen when a rod bolt lets go at 8000rpm. At least Steve caught in time.

The sponsor list is shaping up, still not up to where we need it to be but it should get us going for 2010. Looking at a few new sponsors coming on board with a couple not being able to come back this year.

ScottyRocket Shocks has started a Twitter page for breaking race results and last minute updates as to where we will be racing...and the dreaded rain outs. So follow us at: http://twitter.com/SR_Shocks

We are thinking about a few more things for the fans, so stay tuned....should be an interesting year that's for sure!

End of Season Update
Sunday, 11 October 2009

Sorry for the late update on our last 2 races...it's been pretty busy around here lately with lots of racing stuff going on.

Our last 2 races didn't go to plan, with a mid pack finish and a DNF with a broken engine at the ALMS race at Oakshade. I guess the good thing was that we were moving towards the front when the engine let go.

Other other updates... we have sold the 2005 GRT as well as our 2007/08 Rocket and are now awaiting a new 2010 Rocket. We were contemplating some updates over the winter and found that the costs to do that would pretty much equal to what a new chassis would cost, so with that, we put our Rocket up for sale, 48 hours later, we had struck a deal to sell it and delivered it that following Sunday.

Our first engine is nearly back together and the 2nd one will take a while to gather all the things that it will need.

We are currently talking to prospective sponsors and have had some good feedback so far...so things appear to be looking up in that department. We sure could use a bump in our engine program that is for sure.

We also have a shirt sale going right now... $15 shipped or $10 picked up or dropped off if close enough. You can send an email to me at for payment details on shipped shirts.

All in all a pretty decent year for us, other than the engine issues, we finished 5th in points at Oakshade, pick up a win at Butler and won our first race at Oakshade(Kevin's 9th).... i should also add that Kevin never finished outside the top 8 and had 3 4th place finishes in a row at Mt. Pleasant in on the 5 visits we where there this year.

Stay tuned for more updates... hopefully we can document the building of our new car and post it's progress on the site as we work through the winter. We would also like to thanks all our friends and fans for the support this year, it was tough at times but you guys helped us through. Look for us to bounce back stronger in 2010.

Aug. 22nd Results: Kevin Picks Up First Feature Win At Oakshade!
Sunday, 23 August 2009

Kevin scores first feature win at Oakshade Raceway. It was a chillie night in August and had everyone wondering if they brought enough to wear. Kevin would finally get a decent draw for the heat race and start on the outside pole. That track was pretty tacky still due to the deep cloud cover which would make the car pretty tight. The top 2 would run side by side for 3 or 4 laps until Kevin made adjustments to his line and took off into the lead. By the checkered flag, Kevin would have nearly a full straightaway lead. The stars were apparently aligned as Kevin would pull 3rd starting spot for the feature event.

At the start Kevin would find himself alone in the high line, but not making any progress as the bottom was the place to be for the first half of the race, settling in to 4th spot. We all had pretty much accepted a 4th place finish until the yellow flew with 5 laps to go. Not knowing if we had anything left at this point, we felt confident that we could at least maintain our 4th spot. On the final restart 2nd and 3rd would get together momentarily going into turn 2 and slow them for just a split second...it was just enough for Kevin to blast by on the topside into 2nd spot and set sail for the leader. Kevin would put 3 perfect laps together to pull along side the leader at the white flag..and with everyone in the place on their feet, Kevin would rocket off of the topside of turn 2 to a 2 car length advantage. Dropping low for the final set of corners, he would charge to the checkers for his first feature victory at Oakshade Raceway, 2nd feature win of the year and 9th Career Feature Win.

I think this shows that we have definitely made some improvements over the past few weeks. Hopefully we can keep things rolling into the end of the season. Not sure what the plan is for the rest of the year, but we'll be in Mt. Pleasant this Friday...then if everything goes well there, we will be back at Oakshade Saturday night for their last points race. The following weekend will be the ALMS race at Oakshade as well.
